Sixth Grade

In case you don’t know me, my name is Lauren Beckwith and this is my 17th year teaching at John Fuller School. Of those
17, I have been teaching in the sixth grade for the past seven years and was just across the hall in fifth grade prior to that.

After growing up in the lovely Ocean State, in Rhode Island, I received my undergraduate degree from Plymouth State University where I played basketball and met Mr. Beckwith. We moved to North Conway after graduating when I accepted the teaching position at JFS and have lived here ever since! We are proud to both work for the Conway School District, where he is a physical educator at Kennett High School and also the Varsity Football Coach. We are excited to be raising our three daughters in the beautiful Mount Washington Valley. We are also grateful to spend our summers in Maine, where Mr. Beckwith grew up, where we both work at a summer camp called Camp Manitou for Boys. On the same lake, our daughters attend Camp Somerset for Girls. Besides my family, I love sports, reading, and words.

With that realization, in 2019, I received my Master’s degree from Lesley University in Language and Literacy and am passionate about teaching adolescents about reading, writing, and vocabulary. I love helping students find books they don’t want to put down and can’t wait to talk more about with me and their classmates. I also enjoy helping sixth graders become independent, confident, and resilient learners ready for middle school! Who doesn’t love a little adolescent sass in their lives to keep them on their toes?

One fun fact to know about me is that I love the quote “Rise and Shine!” Getting up early and starting my day exercising with my best friends is my favorite way to start the day.

My name is Kelly Horrigan. I have been at John Fuller since the fall of 2004.  During my time here at JFS I have taught both kindergarten and sixth grade.  I love working on math and science with sixth graders, especially when we dive deep into a problem and solve it together.  Outside of school I love reading sci-fi and speculative fiction. I also enjoy spending time outside in the woods and garden with my kids and pets.

The sixth grade is an exciting year for our students at John Fuller. They are the leaders of the school and take pride in being good role models for the younger students. It is also a year of tremendous growth for students both academically and socially. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and the choices they make socially. We are here to guide them in making wise choices as they become increasingly more independent.
